Today is the 25th December. People in this city are celebrating Christmas with the families. Sometimes I think, I am forgetting how to celebrate social/religious festivals . For the last 8 years , I have been living outside of my native country, and far away from my own family. When I was a little child, during the religious holidays, I used to go to the morning prayer accompanied with my brother, father and uncles and cousines. After the prayer, we also used to visit the graveyard to pay our respect to the people who are no longer with us. Then we returned to our house, which is L shaped , yellow colored and brick built. My mother used to cook semaii (which is native bangladeshi noodles cooked with milk and suger). After eating our breakfast, we went to visit the relatives and friends.
The economic condition of the middle class families in the USA is very bleak. Many people have recently lost their job. I was reading craiglist this morning. I saw a post by a person who lost his job. He does not have enough money to buy clothes for his two kids. So he asks to donate him some clothes for his children. I hope somebody will donate him clothes and money.
It is very stressful to loose job , being fired, or getting laid off. If you dont have any money,and family in the country where you currently live, then it is very hard to survive without a full time job. I think Government should and must increase the amount of the unemployment benefits. This action is demanded and justified by the social contract between the citizens and the government.
